Ecomuseum La Alcogida
museo-de-alcogida-2.jpg

Located in the town of Tefia, near Puerto del Rosario, visiting this museum is to delve into the way of life of the Majorero peasants of the 19th century. It is one of the best cultural centers in the Canary Islands. A rehabilitated town of stone houses, whitewashed with lime and gable roofs, where the lifestyle and work of the island's inhabitants hundreds of years ago are recreated. There is no shortage of camels, donkeys, goats and other animals, which makes the children have a great time. It is worth going to see it after visiting the Tindaya Mountain.

Today the houses retain the name of the inhabitants who, until not so long ago, lived their lives within those walls, and some rooms have been converted into workshops from where artisans of palm, openwork or clay, among other things, , show the details of the traditional trade.

Catamaran to Lobos Island

A day sailing on a catamaran around Lobos Island is an ideal adventure for everyone. Feel the sea breeze and dip your feet in the refreshing water for a memorable experience.

Lobos Island, once a pirate refuge renowned for its sea lions, is now a popular tourist spot in Fuerteventura. Its waves also attract surfers from across Europe.

Situated just 2 kilometers from Corralejo and about 8 kilometers from Lanzarote's southern beaches, Lobos Island is a protected natural area. A catamaran trip around the island, lasting about three hours, includes stops for swimming and snorkeling.

Dive into the water to swim among friendly fish like seifias, barracudas, horse mackerels, and even hammerhead sharks. You can also try stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) or kayaking. However, children should be supervised by adults due to the wind's unpredictability.

This adventure guarantees an unforgettable experience, making it a must-do activity in Fuerteventura.

A spectacle of colors and shapes. Every year the International Kite Festival is held in Corralejo (Fuerteventura), in which hundreds of people participate in this fun day with kites, even created by hand. In 2017, the XXX edition of the Festival was held and, like every year, it was organized by the La Oliva City Council and included a great program of activities.

The Festival lasts several days on different beaches in the Corralejo area. You can see sharks, octopuses, flying dogs and cats in Playa de La Concha, in El Cotillo, Playa del Burro... The imagination of the participants is infinite! In addition, the days are full of activities designed for children, such as, for example, kite-making workshops.

The Festival has its origins in 1987, when a group of kite enthusiasts decided to organize a meeting in which only eight people participated. Currently there are hundreds of participants, competing with authentic works of art, and many more are the spectators.

The Festival is celebrated in November, so if you are considering traveling to Fuerteventura during those dates, make sure you coincide with this wonderful show!

A path of about 8 kilometers that surrounds the island and can go up to La Caldera, the ancient 127-meter-high volcano that is an indisputable landmark of the landscape. The panoramic view is impressive… you will have Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and the island of Lobos itself at your feet. Another reason that makes a family vacation on this island 100% recommended.

Fuerteventura Beaches

cotiillo.jpg
dunas.webp
fuste.jpg
COFETE.jpg

Fuerteventura is famous for its stunning beaches, perfect for family enjoyment. Going to the beach is a favorite activity for kids, who love building sandcastles and splashing in the sea. All you need are some snacks and sun protection.

Los Lagos Beach (El Cotillo)

Los Lagos beaches in El Cotillo are perfect for families. Protected by a reef that prevents waves, they feature fine white sand and rich marine life, ideal for snorkeling. While they lack services, there are bars and restaurants nearby.

The Corralejo Dunes

The beaches of the Corralejo Dunes Natural Park have calm waters, ideal for families. On windy days, you can try windsurfing or kitesurfing. Highlights include Flag Beach, Entubadera, Riu Beach, El Moro, and El Burro, all surrounded by unforgettable desert scenery.

Caleta de Fuste Beach

This natural bay is sheltered from wind and waves, providing a safe environment for families. It offers amenities like sunbed rentals, umbrellas, showers, and restaurants. Additionally, you can visit the nearby Torre de San Buenaventura or Castillo de Fuste, a historical fortification.

Cofete beach:

It is an almost surreal image of the landscape, you have the most intense feeling of freedom you can imagine. This beach is amazing.

Natural Green Water Pools

lala.jpg

Although the island of Fuerteventura is mainly known for its kilometer-long and paradisiacal beaches, it hides secrets that you cannot miss, among them the natural pool of Aguas Verdes or, as the Canarians call it, the Aguas Verdes puddle.

When the island was created, more than 100 million years ago, the lava, together with the erosion of the waves, created this watertight space where sea water penetrates, open to the Atlantic Ocean but protected from strong waves.

We could say that it is a perfect balance between the peace and tranquility that floating on the water provides, knowing that just a few meters away, behind the rocks, is the wild and chaotic nature of the ocean.

Aguas Verdes offers the opportunity to take a relaxed swim in an incredible environment. Its water is crystal clear, since the waves continually renew the interior of the pool, and the soundtrack, composed of the waves of the sea and some seagulls, could not be better.

Submarine trip with crystals

subm.jpg

One of the most impressive activities you can do in Fuerteventura with children is to take an excursion on the Subcat Morro Jable (1 hour 30 minutes from Corralejo). This is a completely different boat than any you have seen before. The Subcat Morro Jable is one of only 3 catamaran-submarines in the world. Yes, you read it right. This boat combines both modalities to provide an unusual experience. At the beginning of the journey, you will sail across the sea on a catamaran, enjoying the sea breeze in your hair and the incredible views. This makes this part of the activity one of the best boat trips in Fuerteventura.

As you pass, you will see the best beaches on the island and you can even take the odd dip. During this part of the excursion, a guide will explain the curiosities and characteristics of the marine fauna and flora of the area.

Once the catamaran ride has taken place, you and the rest of the passengers will go inside the submarine. This is when the immersion and the most exciting part of the trip will begin. Through the windows of the submarine you will see the different animals that live in the depths of the sea. It is impressive to see them in complete freedom and at such a short distance. Without a doubt, this plan is ideal for all members of the family. Although Morro Jable is a town far from Corralejo since it is 1.5 hours by car, we recommend it if you have decided to visit the Oasis Wild park since it is very close to this fantastic zoo.

The Ajuy Caves

ajuy cave.jpg

The Ajuy Caves, located in Betancuria Rural Park, are a designated Natural Monument in the municipality of Ajuy. They are the oldest geological formations in the Canary Islands, spanning 32 hectares of underwater lava that surfaced during the Cretaceous period.

These caves are among the top 150 geological sites of global interest. Visiting them feels like stepping into a movie about the Earth's beginnings due to their ancient and impressive nature.

The magical mountain of Tindaya

tindaya-montana-fuerteventura.jpeg

Tindaya Mountain, known as the Sacred Mountain of Fuerteventura, is a magical place worth visiting on the island. Located in the Llano de Esquinzo in the municipality of La Oliva, it is part of the Biosphere Reserve and rises to 400 meters, with unique geographical features.

Beyond its beauty and views, Tindaya has significant historical and archaeological value, with ancient engravings and footprints. The island's natives once considered it sacred, and today it is a Cultural Heritage Site, Natural Monument, and Point of Geological Interest.

You can see unique species here, such as the hornua, a purple plant typical of the Canary Islands and Morocco, and birds like the Saharan runner and the houbara bustard. I recommend visiting the Bailadero de Las Brujas Cave, where rituals were performed centuries ago.

To visit Tindaya, go to La Oliva. If you go on your own, you will need a permit from the Environment Department of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura. If you hire a company, they will handle the permit for you.
